Bad News For Linebacker U
November 9, 2010 5:30 pm EST

Penn State has long been known as Linebacker U.  As the Nittany Lions enter Ohio Stadium this Saturday, they will have to face a stronger group of linebackers from the Buckeyes.  Back will be both Ross Homan and Travis Howard, as Coach Tressel confirmed and his weekly press conference today.

More Defensive Back Bad News
October 25, 2010 2:30 pm EST

A true testament of the depth at Ohio State continues to be demonstrated in their defensive backfield.  Why is it that every medical report seems to start with a player from the secondary?  Coach Tressel confirmed today that Christian Bryant will be out for at least another 6 weeks.  It certainly sounds like a staph infection to me even though that has never been confirm, let's just hope he makes a full recovery whatever the medical issue.

Also, Corey Brown will be out the rest of the season with the knee injury he suffered on special teams in the Purdue game.  We can't afford to lose any more players in the secondary, we certainly don't want to lose players on kickoff coverage.  Finally, Tressel informed the media linebacker Ross Homan is still recovering and will not be available for the Minnesota game.

Two More Defensive Starters Out for the Purdue Game
October 4, 2010 5:00 pm EST

As if the loss to Wisconsin was not enough, Coach Tressel confirmed today that the defense has also lost two more starters.  First, Ross Homan has a foot injury that will cost him the Purdue game and possibly the game at Minnesota the following week.  Also, Christian Bryant, who was filling in for CJ Barnett who was lost for the season, has some form of infection in his foot.

Moeller Will Miss Rest of 2010 Season
October 4, 2010 5:00 pm EST

Multiple sources are indicating Tyler Moeller will miss the rest of the season with an injury that he suffered against Illinois on Saturday, even though Coach Tressel would not confirm during the Monday press conference. He has suffered a tore pec muscle which will require surgery.

The next step will be to solicit the NCAA for a 6th year of eligibility.  Remember that he lost the 2009 season due to the head injury he suffered in a fight in Florida last year.  During the Illinois game, freshman filled in to replace Moeller.

It is a shame the Big Ten Network coverage did not inform the audience of the injury.

Secondary Will be Thin Against Eastern Michigan
September 22, 2010 11:30 am EST

Word out of this week's preparation for Eastern Michigan is that two more secondary players will be out of the picture for Saturday's game.  Donnie Evege and Travis Howard are both sitting out due to injuries.  In addition, linebacker Dorian Bell will also not be available for the clash with the Eagles.  The good news is both Carlos Hyde and Andrew Sweat will be available again, and based on this week's opponent, both may get playing time.

Barnett Likely to Miss Rest of 2010 Season
September 14, 2010 2:30 pm EST

Not all the news out of the victory over the Hurricanes was positive.  Sophomore strong safety C.J. Barnett left during the second half and now will likely miss the rest of the season following knee surgery.  Barnett, who started the first two games for the Buckeyes, suffered a right knee injury late in the third quarter.

Coach Jim Tressel confirmed Tuesday that Barnett needs surgery and likely will miss the rest of the year.  He had moved up the depth chart over Orhian Johnson after his preseason injury.

"We really hate to lose him," Tressel said, "because I thought he was playing very physical and he was really starting to learn the game."  Tressel expects Johnson to be available to step back into the starting rotation at this time.

Linsley and Hyde Injured During Marshall Game
September 5, 2010 6:00 pm EST

The Buckeyes started with a strong win over Marshall but it was not without a a few casualties. Offensive lineman Corey Linsley hurt his left ankle when his own player rolled over top of him from behind.  He was carted off the field with ice on his foot.  Also fifth string tailback Carlos Hyde suffered a sprained ankle.  No word at this time as to how long either of them will be out.

Also, Nathan Williams has been cleared to play and is expected to start against Miami this week.

Nathan Williams Not Ready for Marshall
August 30, 2010 10:00 pm EST

In today's press conference. Coach Tressel confirmed defensive end Nathan Williams (knee sprain) won't play and that cornerback Chimdi Chekwa (hamstring) will be evaluated after today's practice on whether he can go.  At this time, it is not known if Williams will be ready for the Miami game.

Nathan Williams Suffers Injury
August 16, 2010 5:30 pm EST

Defensive end Nathan Williams suffered a left knee injury Saturday prior to kick scrimmage according to university sources.  He was not able to put much pressure when he hobbled off the field.  He spent the rest of the day icing the knee.  The initial diagnosis indicates he will be out for at least a week, but may be as many as five weeks.  These types of estimates usually mean that they will need to wait until the swelling goes down to know the severity of the injury  We will report more when he know as we get new information.  Hopefully this does not require surgery.

OSU Recruit Turner Shot .... Again
June 19, 2010 8:30 am EST

Youngstown TV station WYTV reported OSU recruit Jamel Turner is in the hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds early this morning.  According to the report, police responded to a call of a multiple shooting and found a 17-year-old girl dead in a house and Turner lying outside with multiple wounds. He was taken to Saint Elizabeth's Hospital.

This is the second time Turner has been shot in two months. He was slightly injured in an apparent drive-by shooting in April, also in Youngstown. He was a passenger in a car that contained guns and drugs.

Before that, he left Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy under unknown circumstances. In his junior year at Youngstown Ursuline High School, he was dismissed from the basketball team for disciplinary reasons and declared ineligible to play sports.

He is a defensive end, and signed a letter of intent with Ohio State in February.

Tyler Moeller's Attacker Pleads Guilty
June 3, 2010 7:00 am EST

Ten months after the incident, Tyler Moeller's attacker pleads guilty.  Tyler's mom Amy believes the man who severely injured her son now is sorry for his actions.  Ralph Gray Decker yesterday pleaded guilty to felony battery in Pinellas County (FL.) Court.

The charge stems from an incident last July when Decker punched Ohio State safety Tyler Moeller at a Florida bar, causing Tyler to fall and hit his head. He suffered bleeding on the brain and required surgery that forced him to sit out last season.

According the reports from the Columbus Dispatch, Amy Moeller spoke with Decker at a court hearing this year.

"I got to explain to him what Tyler's life has been like and the pain (Decker) caused him and how he changed Tyler's life forever," Amy said. "It was very emotional for both of us. I think he is truly remorseful."

Yesterday, she and Decker hugged in a hallway outside the courtroom, she said.

"I just want things to be right," Amy said. "It seemed like the right thing to do, as a mother."

Tyler Moeller declined to comment, saying he wanted to wait until after sentencing. That will take place in August.  Decker could face up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. He is making arrangements to pay $11,000 in restitution, which Amy said was Tyler's out-of-pocket medical expense.

Amy also said Tyler plans to apply to the NCAA for a medical redshirt, which would give him a sixth year of eligibility. Without getting that, this fall would be his final season.

Tyler is expected to be cleared for contact when preseason camp begins in August.

Ellen Tressel Recovering From Heart Surgery
May 21, 2009 8:00 pm EST

A few days after having undergone heart surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Ellen Tressel, wife of Ohio State’s head football coach, is doing well.  She underwent a three-hour procedure to repair a heart valve to improve blood flow.  Instead of going to the OSU Medical Center, the surgery was done at the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute at the Cleveland Clinic.  The Cleveland Clinic has been ranked the No. 1 heart hospital for the past 15 years.

It is not unusual that an OSU staff or faculty member would get a procedure done at an outside hospital.  After spending the rest of the week recovering, the Tressel's are making their way back into the community.  Coach Tressel missed the Big Ten Conference in Chicago to be with his wife.

Pryor Has Knee Surgery
February 12, 2010 6:30 am EST

Coming off the big win in the Rose Bowl, all Buckeye fans want to see the team head into Spring Drills healthy.  QB Terrelle Pryor wanted to make sure he was in the best shape possible, so he took care of a slight injury suffered way back in the middle of the 2009 season.  Pryor had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this week, but he is expected to be fine for the start of spring practice, an athletic department spokeswoman said.

Pryor suffered the injury, a partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament October 31st against New Mexico State. Although he was hampered by the injury, Pryor still led OSU to three victories and a Big Ten title to close out the regular season, then had an outstanding game in the Rose Bowl with a career-high 266 passing yards in a 26-17 victory over Oregon.  Certainly will keep fans wondering what he can do if he is 100% in 2010!

Last week, coach Jim Tressel said the knee was "nothing that has to be attended to surgically." It appears the surgery might not have been medically necessary but was something Pryor wanted done, maybe for peace of mind.

On his Twitter page, Pryor said he had to be off his feet for two weeks and then he would be "off to work."

Spring practice begins April 1.
