Verlon Reed Next Player Added to the List
October 4, 2011 7:15 pm EST
Just when it seems the news for the Buckeyes can not get any worse, the team loses yet another player. Add receiver Verlon Reed to the list of players Ohio State must make do without. Reed, who is second on the team with nine catches for 132 yards, tore his right ACL and other knee ligaments late in Saturday's 10-7 loss to Michigan State and is out for the season, coach Luke Fickell said to the press today.
No further word at this time as to the status of Corey Brown. The team hoped to add suspended DeVier Posey to the roster this week, but the NCAA has added to his suspension for a new violation.
Williams and Brown Still Unavailable
September 24, 2011 11:00 am EST
Ohio State missed the services of two starters last week against Miami, senior defensive end Nathan Williams was out for a second consecutive game with a knee injury and sophomore wide receiver Corey “Philly” Brown missed the contest with an ankle sprain. Williams, a 13-game starter, is not expected back this week. The playing status of Brown for is doubtful and is not expected to see the field. Brown started once as a true freshman last year and he also started the first two games this year.
Berry Not Available For Toledo Game
September 6, 2011 1:30 pm EST
This week the Buckeyes will get Jordan Hall back after serving his one game suspension, but they will still be without Jaamal Berry. Coach Fickell announced today Berry has still not recovered from his hamstring injury. It may be as many as three weeks before he will be available.
Fragel Treated For Staph Infection
July 21, 2011 5:00 pm EST
Columbus Dispatch staff member Bill Rabinowitz reports Ohio State tight end Reid Fragel tweeted yesterday that he has been released from the hospital after being diagnosed with a MRSA staph infection in his leg. He tweeted Tuesday night that he was headed to the emergency room. He said he had a tetanus shot early yesterday and was released, and that he expected to be ready to get back to work in one week.
Fragel, a 6-foot-6, 280-pounder, shared time with Jake Stoneburner as a sophomore last season. He caught nine passes for 121 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown reception against Iowa. Fragel had a 42-yard catch in the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.
Spring Injury Updates
April 26, 2011 10:30 pm EST
Overall, the 'physical' health of the Buckeyes is not too bad at this time. Safeties Tyler Moeller (recovering from torn pectoral muscle) and C.J. Barnett (recovering from knee surgery last fall) have been held out of contact all spring, though Barnett has participated in some on-field drills.
Safety Jamie Wood was having a good spring before suffering a shoulder injury a week ago during the scrimmage in Ohio Stadium. Among linebackers, Storm Klein was slowed by injury in mid-month, and Scott McVey is recovering from injury.
Pryor Has Foot Surgery
January 7, 2011 6:00 pm EST
Quarterback Terrelle Pryor underwent surgery for the second time in less than a year. Last February Pryor had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Today he was treated to repair an injury to his right foot according to AP reports. He was injured in the fourth quarter of the Buckeyes' 31-26 Sugar Bowl win over Arkansas on Tuesday. It was a quarterback sneak in which he has reaching for a first down. He left the game as Joe Bauserman played a couple of snaps. The surgery was to stabilized some ligaments in the foot.
Pryor faces a five-game suspension at the beginning of the 2011 season for his role in selling Ohio State awards to a tattoo parlor owner. It is not known whether the junior will stay and serve the suspension or leave for the NFL draft. OSU plans to appeal the suspension for Pryor and four other Buckeye players. Add me to the list of people that do not believe Terrelle is ready to play quarterback in the NFL anyway. After the Sugar Bowl, Pryor did say that he's not ready for the NFL draft and will honor his pledge to coach Jim Tressel to return for his senior season.
"I've got a lot of learning and better decision-making I have to make on and off the field," Pryor said. "Off the field, I need to grow up a little bit more, mature as well. I just have a lot of growing up to do."
