Buckeyes Earn Spot IN NCAA Tournament
November 25, 2012 10:30 pm EST
The Buckeyes (22-10) will travel to Lexington, Ky., to face Notre Dame (20-9) Friday at 5:30 p.m. ET in the first round of the NCAA Division I Volleyball tournament. #16 seed Kentucky (20-10) takes on East Tennessee State (23-12) in the first round and the winners of both matches play Saturday at 7:-00 pm. The winner of that game will advance to the West Lafayette Regional, December 7-8.
This will be the fourth-straight for the Buckeyes. The past two years the Buckeyes have reached the sweet 16. Ohio State is 28-18 overall in NCAA play and has advanced to the Final Four twice ('91, '94).
Ohio State is one of seven Big Ten schools selected to the field of 64. The Buckeyes finished the Big Ten season fourth with a 13-7 record behind nationally-ranked Penn State (No. 1), Nebraska (No. 10) and Minnesota (No. 11). Purdue, Michigan State and Michigan also earned spots in the NCAA tournament.
Final Tune-up Before Season Begins
August 21, 2012 9:30 pm EST
The women's volleyball team squared off against themselves in an intra-squad scrimmage tonight as they prepared for the season opener against Houston Friday night in the Sports Import DC Koehl Classic in St John Arena.
The team title is not that important since players switched jerseys between matches but 'officially' the Scarlet squads defeated the Gray 2-1 (25-15, 19-25, 15-12). I am sure there are a couple players in the locker afterwards with bragging rights of being on the winning team all three games.
The returning starters continued to look strong, but all the playing time allowed the newcomers to show their skills as well. In particular, freshman Katie Mitchell who lead the team with 10 kills and freshman Andrea Kacsits who was clearly a vocal leader on the court.
The arena crowd which was a bit under arena capacity was treated to free pizza after the scrimmage. In planning your sports schedule next year, you might want to remember!
