Troy Smith, senior quarterback

Opening Statement

"I want to give hats off to Bowling Green. They did a great job and played a tough game. Our defensive did a great job by holding BG to only seven points. Our offense always has things to improve on and today was no different."

On touchdown pass to Ray Small

"Anytime a young guy can get a chance to play it is good and especially to see him get into the end zone. The line gave me time to make a play and throw the ball."

On long touchdown to Ted Ginn Jr.

"Being a defensive back I would stay deeper than the deepest on Ted because he will run right past you. The long play to Ted took a while to develop but I tried my best to get him the ball. Whenever you have a player like Ted you always want to get him the ball and I tried to get the ball to him on stride so the DB cannot catch up to him."

On his long run for a first down

"The run felt alright. I haven't run like that in a while. I needed to step up and make a play and that's what you have to do at Ohio State."

David Patterson, senior defensive tackle

Opening Statement

"I give credit to Bowling Green because they came here and gave us a good game. Our defense definitely has things to improve on and I always enjoy watching our great offense."

On playing a non-league game

"I am just thankful to get to play another game at Ohio State because it's my senior year. Any chance I can get to play I will take."

James Laurinaitis, sophomore linebacker

On playing Bowling Green

"They ran a lot of plays that we aren't use to seeing. They lined up their quarterback in shotgun on third-and-1 and you never knew if he was going to throw or run. You just have to adapt and read and react with a team like Bowling Green."

On having Michigan State next week

"The conference is what it is all about and we are in a position to win the conference out right and that's what we are trying to do. Michigan State is a good team and we just have to be ready."

On preparing for Bowling Green

"The coaches worked us harder this past week and told us we need to take it one game at a time. Michigan State is really good and we couldn't look past Bowling Green."

On improving

"I think we are always making steps on improvement with each game even if we don't play as well as we would have liked to."

Quinn Pitcock, senior defensive tackle

On today's game

"We created turnovers and held them to seven points which is what we always want to do. Today was a great opportunity to prepare us for other teams. We saw a lot of different spreads and had new experiences. Bowling Green was a lot more physical than we thought, but that is just how they play. They were a very good team."

On the new field turf at Ohio Stadium

"It was more durable than in the past games where I was slipping and falling. It may take time to even it out but I felt good with it."

Doug Datish, senior center

On today's game

"We felt that we could have done a better job and look forward to playing back in the Big Ten. Bowling Green did things to confuse us today and played a very good game."

Rory Nicol, sophomore tight end

On his touchdown

"It was fun. It was great to be involved and get in the end zone. It is an honor when you score. When you have the chance just don't drop it because it doesn't come very often."

On Bowling Green

"They are a solid team. They played physical and came in and fought hard. We knew that they wouldn't come in here and bow down to us. The offensive line and sidelines did a great job adapting to the changes."

Joel Penton, senior defensive tackle

On the game

"Bowling Green came in and fought hard and did a good game. We came out on top and that's what we want. We did better in some areas. We saw things today that we haven't seen and those new things can always help us. Now we are just excited for Big Ten play, but it was a good in-state game."

Kurt Coleman, freshman defensive back

On switching positions (corner to free safety)

"The coaches told me they needed me to switch positions and I would do anything the team needs. It was good playing Bowling Green because I was able to get in reps before Michigan State next week."

On blocking the field goal

"It felt great. I've been waiting for my chance to get out there. It's all new to me, but I'm working my way in. Anything for the team I can do, I'll do."

Vernon Gholston, sophomore defensive end

On the season so far

"We've come a long way, but we still need to get better."

On his new role this season

"I know I have the talent to play here at Ohio State. I just have to work a lot at my game."

On his interception

"I always told the guys if I got an interception I was going to take it the house, but after I got the ball, the guy was right on me. I knew I'd catch it, but I wanted a good return."

Todd Denlinger, freshman defensive tackle

On losing David Patterson

"He's a vital part of our defense and we need him in there. He's a great leader, teammate and player. I had to step it up and I think I did a pretty good job, but I wish him the best to get better."

On learning his position

"I've learned so much from watching the other linemen Ð watching their footwork and hands. I've done a 180 with my footwork and hands and learning that has really helped me. Hopefully I can step up and be the guy next year."
