activities, including a pumpkin patch, hay rides, a barnyard bouncer inflatable play area, corn cannons, a play area, a cow barrel train, laser tag, family dodgeball, farm animals, a goat mountain, camp fires, pedal carts, a tube slide, PVC roller slide and rubber duck races, according to information provided by Randy Rausch.
As Halloween approaches, the haunted Field of Fright will be opened on weekends after dark.
The Maize is planted on nine acres of land, and was created by designer Brett Herbst, who has designed more than 600 in his career.
"Though the correct pathways can be walked in under 30 minutes, most directionally challenged visitors adults and children alike will require about one hour to travel through more than two miles of twists and turns and 85 decision points," said The Maize spokesperson Kamille Combs.
It was first introduced in Utah in 1996, as the largest human-sized cornfield example in the western United States, according to Combs. Since its inception, Herbst and other organizers have worked to support agricultural education through customized ag-in-the-classroom lesson plans, onsite displays and tours, along with discounted field trip opportunities for classrooms.
The Maize in Milford Center will be open from September 18 through October 31. Hours of operation are 5:00-10:00 pm Fridays, noon to 10:00 pm Saturdays and noon to 6:00 pm Sundays. Tickets cost $8 for those three and older, with tickets to the Field of Fright costing $12. Discounts are available for groups of 15 or more. Special weekends have been planned, including Scouts weekends on Sept. 25 and 26 and Oct. 2 and 3 (scout groups receive the group rate and a free scout patch), a 5K run/walk fundraiser to benefit the Haiti mission group at the Indian Run United Methodist Church, to be held Oct. 10, and a trick or treat weekend (come in costume and receive trick or treat candy) on Oct. 30 and 31.
The Maize is at 8657 Axe Handle Road, in Milford Center, 10 miles south of Marysville and eight miles west of Plain City, off state Route 161. More information on the farm's events, along with reservations, can be found by calling 937-349-4781.
