OSU Opens Big Ten With Loss to Michigan

The Buckeyes volleyball team (9-4 overall, 0-1 Big Ten) lost 3-0 (22-25, 23-25, 20-25) to No. 21 Michigan (13-0, 1-0) Wednesday night in the Big Ten opener for both teams. 2,171 fans showed up for this match which was also on the Big Ten Network. OSU’s Anna Szerszen scored a match-high 15.5 points for Ohio State with Kristen Dozier adding 10. Szerszen had a team-high 10 kills, one ace serve, three solo blocks and three assists. Dozier posted eight kills, a solo block and two assists. The next match will be Friday night in East Lansing against the Spartans.
Carlston Reaches Coaching Mark

The Buckeye's 3-0 win over Duquesne on Friday marked the 200th career victory for OSU head coach Geoff Carlston, who currently boasts an all-time record of 202-67 (.751) in his ninth year as a head coach.
Buckeyes Finish Classic with a Win

The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (9-3 overall), with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-23) victory over Kent State (10-3), won the Kent State/Mizuno open Saturday night in the M.A.C. Center. OSU’s Anna Szerszen posted a match-high 14.5 points for the Buckeyes with Kelli Barhorst adding 11.5. Szerszen had 12 kills, two solo blocks and one assist in the match while Barhorst added nine kills, two solo blocks and one assist. Ohio State returns home to St. John Arena to open the Big Ten Conference season with a 7 p.m. Wednesday match against 25th-ranked Michigan (12-0).

OSU Picked to Finish 9th By Conference

The Big Ten Conference released the 2008 Preseason Poll, ranking Ohio State ninth in the poll conducted by the conference coaches. Five-time defending Big Ten Champion and last year's National Champion Penn State was tabbed for the fourth consecutive time as the preseason favorite. Minnesota was picked second and Wisconsin third.
Last year Ohio State finished the season with a 13-16 overall record and finished ninth in the Big Ten Conference with a 7-13 record. Under first year head coach Geoff Carlston, the Buckeyes return four starters from last season: Middle blocker Kristen Dozier and outside hitters Anna Szerszen, Katie Dull and Kaila Calhoun.
