Season Comes to a Close in Dayton

The Ohio State women's volleyball team (24-12) closed out the 2010 season with a 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18) loss to third-seeded Stanford (27-3) at the NCAA Regional Semifinal match of the Dayton Regional at the University of Dayton Arena. It was the end of a great season and run in the NCAA tournament that found 6 Big Ten schools (7 if you want to count Nebraska) in the Sweet 16.
OSU's Katie Dull had a team-high 21 kills and one assist block. Anna Szerszen posted 11 kills.
For the match, Ohio State hit .318 to .315 for the Cardinal. Stanford had a 66-55 advantage in kills and a 58-53 margin in assists. OSU's Hone posted a match-high 42 while Lichtman had a team-high 27 and Karissa Cook added 26 for the Cardinal. Stanford had a 9-1 margin in ace serves with Klineman recording a match-high three. OSU gave up eight service errors to seven for the Cardinal. Defensively, Ohio State had a 56-54 edge in digs with OSU's Sarah Mignin posting a match-high 17. Benjamin and Gabi Ailes each recorded a team-high 11 for Stanford. At the net, the Buckeyes had an 8-6 margin in team blocks. OSU's Barhorst posted a match-high five assist blocks for the Buckeyes.
NCAA Tournament Time For Buckeyes

The Ohio State women's volleyball team (22-11) are heading to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. They will face Lipscomb (24-6) at 6:00 pm Friday in the University of Dayton Frericks Center in a first round match. The second match will have Butler (21-9) face host and 14th-seed Dayton (27-3) at 8:00 pm. The Friday winners will advance to the second round at 5:30 pm Saturday at the Frericks Center.
The Big Ten Conference announced that Katie Dull has been named to the All-Big Ten Team and Kelli Barhorst is an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection. It marks the second selection for Dull to the All-Big Ten Team (2009) and the first honor for Barhorst.
Buckeyes Drops First Match of 2010 Season

The Ohio State (5-1) women's volleyball team lost a 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 27-25, 25-20) decision at 16th ranked Kentucky (4-2) in the final match of the Kentucky Classic in Lexington, Ky. OSU's Katie Dull posted a team-high 16 points on 16 kills with Kelli Barhorst and Anna Szerszen adding 10.5 points each. Prior to the match against the Wildcats, the Buckeyes won three straight against South Florida and Miami (OH).
Volleyball Scrimmage Held

The OSU Volleyball team held an intersquad scrimmage tonight to a crowd less then capacity at St John Arena. The players moved back and forth between teams but I guess you can say the Scarlet defeated the Gray 25-19, 22-25, 28-26. Following the scrimmage, the coaching staff held a Q&A session. The season starts for real Friday as Ohio State plays host to Virginia Commonwealth.
Buckeyes Picked to Finish 4th in Big Ten

By a vote of the Big Ten coaches, Ohio State has been picked to finish fourth in the 2010 season. The Buckeyes finished tied for fourth last season. Six-time defending champion Penn State was picked to finish first, Illinois season and Minnesota third. Rounding out the top six is Michigan fifth and Michigan State sixth. In addition, they are ranked 28th in the pre-season poll by the AVCA.
OSU Volleyball Schedule Announced

The 2010 Ohio State University's women's volleyball team schedule has been released. In addition to their 20 Big Ten conference matches in the 2010, they will also play in four preseason tournaments.
With three Big Ten Championships and 16 appearances in NCAA Championships, OSU women’s volleyball hopes to build on the 2009 record (25-10) this coming year.
OSU Finishes Spring Slate

OSU's volleyball team finished the spring schedule with an 8-1-3 record over a four-week period. The 12-player squad, composed of four freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors and one senior, competed in three tournaments and hosted Marshall at the Columbus Convention Center in a four-week period.
Ohio State begins the 2010 season by hosting the Sports Imports Classic, facing Virginia Commonwealth at 7:00pm Friday, August 27th.
Spring Schedule Announced

Head coach Geoff Carlston has announced the spring playing schedule for the Buckeyes. OSU will open the spring schedule April 3 at the Miami (Ohio) Tournament in Oxford, Ohio. The Buckeyes will then play in the KIVA College Invite in Louisville, Ky., April 10. Ohio State's home appearance will be April 17 at 7:00 pm against Marshall at the Columbus Convention Center. The Buckeyes close out their spring schedule April 27 at the Cincinnati Tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Buckeyes are returning 12 letter winners from the 2009 season when Ohio State finished 25-10 overall and tied for fourth in the Big Ten Conference with a 12-8 league record. OSU received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship and advanced to the second round.
Kaitlyn Leary Named a Fab 50

OSU reports volleyball 2010 recruit Kaitlyn Leary has been named to the Sports Imports/Volleyball Magazine Girls Fab 50. Leary is a 6-1 outside hitter from Padua Franciscan High School in Parma, Ohio who played club ball for the Cleveland Volleyball Company. She is a two-time state champion, the 2008 district player of the year and earned first team all-state honors in 2008 and 2009. Leary is a member of the 2008 and 2009 USA Youth National Training Team and was a 2008 Prepvolleyball.com high school All-American.
Ohio State currently has five Fab 50 players on the roster with Katie Dull and Betsy Hone from 2007, Kelli Barhorst from 2008 and Emily Danks and Amanda Peterson from 2009.
