Men Open Season Tonight

The Ohio State women's volleyball team added three recruits for 2012, head coach Geoff Carlston announced. Middle blockers Alex Heyn and Andrea Kacsits and outside hitter Katie Mitchell will join a team that reached the Sweet Sixteen for the second-consecutive season and notched its third-straight season with 20-plus wins.

As reported from the OSU website:

Heyn, a 6-4 middle blocker from Ashburn, VA., helped lead Stone Bridge High School to the 2010 Virginia State Finals and was named to the 2010 Virginia Northern Region All-Tournament Team. A member of Virginia Elite VBC, Heyn was listed No. 68 on Prepvolleyball.com's list of Top 100 seniors.

Kacsits, a native of Rockford, MI., is a 6-4 middle blocker from Rockford High School and Dead Frog Far Out VBC. Kacsits is No. 78 on Prepvolleyball.com's list of Top 100 seniors and was named an Under Armour All-American and a Gatorade Michigan Player of the Year finalist. A member of the 2011 Michigan Class A State Championship team, Kacsits was a four-time All-State selection, two-time team co-captain and a member of the National Honor Society.

Mitchell, a 6-2 outside hitter from The Woodlands, Texas, was listed No. 42 on Prepvolleyball.com's list of Top 100 seniors and was named a Maxpreps.com and Under Armour All-American. A member of Houston Jr's VBC from College Park High School, Mitchell was a two-time All-State selection and four-time Academic All-District.

As for the Men's squad, they will open the 2012 season ranked eighth in the first American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I-II Men’s Coaches Top 15 Poll. The Buckeyes are also ranked seventh in Volleyball Magazine Men’s Division I-II Top 10 Poll.  Their season starts tonight at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational. The defending national champions face host UC Santa Barbara tonight at 10:00 am. PST and follow with a 7:00 pm match against either Cal State Northridge or UCLA.  The game against the Gauchos is a rematch of last year's NCAA championship match where Ohio State topped UCSB, 3-2 (20-25, 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 15-9).

Buckeye 50 Returns for 6th Year Of VB Coverage

Once again Buckeye 50 will provide coverage for the OSU women's volleyball team. We continue to get feedback from our site followers so we continue to make improvements. Last year at season's end, we had 255 total hits, and we want to set a goal to have over 1,000 visits to volleyball this year.
